Princess-cut diamonds are highly favored for engagement rings and are also called square-modified brilliant cuts. They are essentially square versions of round brilliant-cut diamonds and look stunning when set in necklaces, earrings, and bracelets. Their 90-degree angles create bold and modern lines and sparkling facets. Princess-cut diamonds are one of the more contemporary diamond cuts, originating in the 1980s. The shape of a princess-cut diamond appears square or rectangular from the face-up view and resembles an inverted pyramid with four beveled edges from its side view. When viewed from above, princess-cut diamonds exhibit a characteristic X shape.
To obtain a perfectly square princess-cut diamond, look for a diamond with a length-to-width ratio of 1.00 to 1.05. Please note that the corners of a princess-cut diamond are prone to snagging and are more likely to chip. We recommend selecting settings with prongs to protect your princess-cut diamond from damage.
