One of the most popular choices for engagement rings, princess-cut diamonds are also known as square-modified brilliant cuts and are essentially squared variants of round brilliant-cut diamonds. Engagement rings aside, princess-cut diamonds also look spectacular when set in necklaces, earrings, and bracelets. They are known for their bold and modern lines due to their 90-degree angles and the sparkling facets they create. Princess-cut diamonds are one of the more contemporary diamond cuts, originating in the 1980s. The princess-cut diamond shape appears square or rectangular from the face-up and resembles an inverted pyramid from the side with four beveled edges. When seen from above, princess-cut diamonds display a distinctive X shape.
For a perfectly square princess-cut diamond, select a diamond with a length-to-width ratio of 1.00 to 1.05.
Please note: a princess-cut diamond's corners are susceptible to snagging, making them more likely to chip. To protect your princess-cut diamond, we recommend selecting settings with prongs to prevent damage to your diamond.
