What Is A Bezel Setting?

While shopping for an engagement ring, you will come across all types of settings. Prong settings are the most popular setting choice that you will see - they let in the most light, thus creating the most sparkle, but bezel settings are the most secure choice. A bezel setting features a circle of metal surrounding the diamond, holding the stone in place. Bezel settings can be used for engagement rings, earrings, bracelets, and more.

They are one of the oldest setting styles and are quite popular in vintage engagement rings.

Do bezel settings make a diamond look bigger?   

Bezel settings conceal a tiny bit of the diamond’s edges, so they can make a diamond appear smaller. With a white gold or platinum bezel setting, you may not notice much of a difference in size since it will blend in with the diamond, but yellow gold or rose gold can especially make the diamond look smaller. You can choose a bezel setting with a halo to make your stone appear larger. Semi-bezel settings are also a great choice because they don’t detract from the size of the stone.  

Can a diamond become loose in a bezel setting?   

Even though bezel settings are more secure than prong-set diamonds, it is still possible for diamonds to become loose in the setting. If your diamond becomes loose, contact us for assistance. You’ll know your stone is loose if you can hear it rattling in the setting. 

Are bezel settings more expensive?  

Since bezel settings use more metal than a prong setting, they can be a little pricier.
