Even if you haven’t bought your engagement ring yet, it’s never too early to start planning your proposal in San Francisco. With over 25.8 million visitors per year, there are plenty of things to do in San Francisco and hundreds of places to propose. As always, we work to make the engagement process easier, so we’ve narrowed down a few spots for you. Here are 7 romantic places to propose in San Francisco.
This manicured rooftop garden in Nob Hill is open to the public – you don't have to stay at the landmark hotel to visit. You’ll get a beautiful view of the San Francisco skyline, and on a sunny day, your diamond will gleam brilliantly as you slide it on your sweetheart’s finger. Note that this rooftop is occasionally closed for private events, so you may want to call the hotel in advance to make sure it is open.
Stepping into this ornate four-acre garden will feel like you’ve entered another country, but luckily, no passports are required. You'll love the sculptures, architecture, and koi fish ponds. Take in the cherry blossom trees, which are in bloom in March and April, and enjoy a cup of tea with your significant other. Although it's located inside Golden Gate Park, you’ll need tickets to enter. Currently, general admission is $10, while San Francisco residents can show their ID to enter for $7.

Baker Beach is an iconic San Francisco location, and it’s also the perfect place to pop the question. The beach is beautiful any time of day, but try going during sunset for an unforgettable proposal. If you’re trying to get the perfect photo or seeking more privacy, you should note that it’ll be the busiest on sunny weekends. On very busy days, it’ll also be more difficult to find parking, so you may want to Uber there.
Pier 7 offers unobstructed views of Bay Ridge. It’s far less crowded than other piers, like Pier 39, making it a more intimate proposal spot. The vintage-style lanterns add extra charm. Like Baker Beach, it’s especially stunning at sunset.

Coit Tower is 210-feet high and offers 360 views of San Francisco. From this Art Deco tower, you’ll be able to see the iconic Golden Gate and Bay bridges.
Since it’s on top of Telegraph Hill, you’ll feel even higher up. You can reach the tower’s observation deck via elevator (phew!). Tickets for the observation deck can be purchased at the gift shop. Currently, tickets are $10 for non-residents and $7 for SF residents. On busy weekends, parking can be difficult to find, so give yourself a little extra time to find a spot if you are driving there.

The Palace of Fine Arts is another San Francisco treasure. This Greco-Roman-style structure is one of the most photographed spots in the city. The entire site, including the rotunda, is open daily, but you may want to check their events page in advance to ensure its availability.
Considered one of “the best rooftop bars in the U.S.” by Condé Nast Traveler, this swanky rooftop bar on top of Proper Hotel is a popular place to pop the question. The fire pits, gorgeous views, and expertly crafted cocktails are the perfect prelude to getting down on one knee. Don’t forget to make a reservation here.
