After much speculation, it's been confirmed that Robert Pattinson and Suki Waterhouse, who have been dating since 2018, are engaged. The 37-year-old Twilight actor and his 31-year-old actress/model girlfriend were photographed while walking around London recently, initially sparking rumors about their engagement as Waterhouse was spotted wearing a sizable diamond ring on her left hand. This news comes after the Daisy Jones & The Six actress announced her pregnancy at the Corona Capital Festival in Mexico last month. In a fan-captured video, she revealed her baby bump, and sources later confirmed that the couple is thrilled about expecting their first child. Despite being relatively private about their relationship, the couple made their red carpet debut at the Dior Men Fall 2023 show in Egypt, where they walked arm-in-arm. This engagement marks the first marriage for both Waterhouse and Pattinson.
Pattinson previously dated Kristen Stewart, his Twilight costar, and later on, was engaged to British singer, songwriter, and dancer FKA Twigs after dating for over two years. Waterhouse was in a relationship with Bradley Cooper for two years until the spring of 2015 and subsequently began dating Diego Luna through 2017.
Suki Waterhouse’s stunning two-stone diamond sparkler is often called a Toi et Moi ring, a style that embodies true love and devotion. Considered one of the most romantic engagement ring styles, Toi et Moi translates from French as 'you and me.' With Toi et Moi engagement rings, the two stones symbolize the union of two lovers in a dedicated partnership. According to U.K. jewelry and diamond ring specialist Neil Dutta of Angelic Diamonds, Suki Waterhouse’s Toi et Moi engagement ring features a 2.5-carat princess-cut diamond positioned next to a 2.5-carat pear-shaped diamond set on a diamond pavé platinum band. Dutta estimates the value of Waterhouse’s ring at £260,000, or $330,000 in U.S. dollars.
The Toi et Moi ring has a storied history that dates back to the 18th century. Napoleon Bonaparte gifted his bride-to-be, Josephine, an engagement ring with two pear-shaped stones – a blue sapphire and a white diamond, set in gold. Empress Josephine's Toi et Moi engagement ring gained attention in 2013 when it went up for auction in France, ultimately fetching nearly $1 million due to its exceptional origin.
Queen Margrethe of Denmark, a direct descendant of Josephine, fittingly wears a Toi et Moi engagement ring gifted to her by her late husband, Prince Henrik.
In 1953, when John F. Kennedy proposed to his future First Lady, Jackie Bouvier, he made a wise choice with a distinctive Toi et Moi engagement ring from Van Cleef & Arpels. The ring showcased two emerald-cut stones, a diamond, and an emerald, embellished with tapered baguette diamonds set into a gold band. A decade later, Jackie enhanced the ring by adding 2.12 carats of marquise and round diamonds, creating the appearance of a laurel wreath.
Toi et Moi engagement rings have also seen an uptick in popularity in recent years due to certain celebrities embracing this ring style, including Ariana Grande, Emily Ratajkowski, and Megan Fox.
