At Ritani, we don’t recommend using white gold for two-tone rings – instead, platinum is a better choice. This is because white gold requires rhodium replating every few years since over time it can become dull. When engagement rings are replated, they are typically fully dipped into the rhodium, and this becomes tricky when there is another metal used in the ring like rose gold or yellow gold that would be affected by the rhodium plating.

East to West Settings

East to West settings create an unforgettable look by setting a diamond horizontally on the band rather than the traditional vertical setting. This setting style is ideal for elongated diamond shapes, such as oval cut diamonds, marquise cut diamonds, emerald cut diamonds, radiant cut diamonds, and can even be used for pear cut diamonds. Elongated cushion cut diamonds can also be used in an East to West setting.

Marquise

​Marquise diamonds are known for their football shape. This sparkly elongated diamond shape has the largest surface area, so it looks bigger than other diamond shapes of the same carat weight.

Pear​

​Pear-shaped diamonds are easily recognizable by their teardrop shape. You can easily change up their look by facing the point towards your fingertips or towards your wrist. Heart

It doesn’t get more romantic than a heart-shaped diamond! This brilliant diamond shape is one of the rarest fancy-shaped diamonds.

Asscher

​Asscher-cut diamonds are another less common shape. Like the emerald-cut, they have large parallel facets, cropped corners, and an unmistakable “X” at the center of the stone. However, Asscher-cut diamonds don’t sparkle very much. If you love the look of an Asscher-cut diamond but want more sparkle in your ring, try a sidestone or halo setting. Radiant

Radiant-cut diamonds can be rectangular or square-shaped but are usually rectangular. Packed with sparkle and graced with cropped corners, this modern diamond cut is a great choice for those who want a ring that’s a little different.

Unique Side Stones

If the diamond shapes listed above don’t appeal to you and you’d rather have a more common diamond shape for your center stone, like a round-cut diamond or a cushion-cut diamond, consider unique side stones for your ring that will complement it rather than be the star of the show. For example, this three-stone engagement ring has two trillion-cut diamonds. Trillion-cut diamonds are triangle-shaped diamonds and aren’t seen very often in engagement rings.

Another unusual diamond shape is the half-moon diamond. The half-moon diamond looks like a round diamond that has been cut in half.

​While most fancy colored diamonds, like fancy pink and fancy blue diamonds, are out of the average person’s price range, fancy yellow diamonds are the most affordable.
