During a family vacation in Scotland, Scott popped the question. Deschanel's children, 8-year-old Elsie and 6-year-old Charlie, whom the actress co-parents with her ex-husband Jacob Pechenik, apparently played a role in helping their future stepfather orchestrate the proposal. Fried notes that Zooey's engagement ring serves as a genuine reflection of who she is: beautiful, distinctive, and authentic. Fried points out that the central purple stone could potentially be a diamond, sapphire, or alexandrite, while the flanking stones appear to be diamonds, each approximately weighing around 3 carats. He believes that Jonathan Scott collaborated extensively with a ring designer over several weeks to craft an engagement ring that holds such a deeply personalized touch. Mason Rotsart, a gemologist at Rare Carat, agrees that the HGTV star undoubtedly invested considerable effort in designing the customized creation. However, Rotsart suggests that there could be minor differences in terms of carat size and the specific gemstones used. Rotsart believes the ring features a 3.5-carat royal purple garnet, a gemstone aligned with Deschanel’s birth month. He further explains that it is complemented by a star shaped 1.5-carat diamond featuring a pink accent stone on the right, with a smaller oval-shaped diamond on the left side.
